You don’t need a car to see the best of Pylos and Gialova.
A scooter or e-bike opens up almost everything in the area — and gets you closer to the scenery than any car can. Here’s a three-day itinerary based in Gialova.
Day 1 — Arrival, Settle in, Explore
Morning: Check into your accommodation in Gialova. Coffee and a bite to eat in the village — or stock up at the Martins store on the main road. Our store has coffee, breakfast, fresh local produce, and everything you need for the beach.
Get off at Gialova’s main beach. Shallow, calm waters, ideal for a first swim.
Afternoon: Explore the village. Walk along the lagoon where flamingos are visible from the spring-autumn trail.
Evening: Dinner at a beach tavern and fresh fish. Sunset over the bay and Sfaktiria.
Day 2 — Voidokilia Day
This is the big day.
Early morning: Rent a scooter or bike at Martin’s Rentals. It’s a good idea to start early in the morning to avoid the crowds.
Morning: Swim in Voidokilia. Climb to Paleokastro — 25 minutes. The view from above is one of the most unforgettable moments of any trip to Messinia.
Noon: Return to Gialova via Petrochori. Lunch at a local tavern.
Afternoon: Relax and sunset at Divari beach or on the lagoon path.
Day 3 — Pylos & History
Morning: Route to Pylos. Start from Three Admirals Square — coffee under the plane trees with a view of the bay. Climb to Niokastro will take 1.5–2 hours.
Noon: Lunch at a fish tavern in the port.
Afternoon: On the way back you can stop at Nestor’s Palace.
Evening: Shopping at Martins’ Delicatessen for local products and anything you need for your last night.
Your base for everything, Martin’s Rentals and Martins store, on the main road of Gialova.
